What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas

Mclain and I just got back from our first trip to Vegas and it was so profound I needed to blog about it.
Likely not profound in the way you'd think. Today I'm sharing something personal that I've never talked about and for good reason.
Over six months ago I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. If you're unfamiliar it's an a bowel disease that causes inflammation and ulcers in your digestive tract. My Mom has this autoimmune disease and because of this I was at greater risk for it as well.
Stress is one of the biggest factors in causing flare ups and years of a high stress life finally took its toll on my body.
I decided to do a food elimination diet back in October in order to heal and I'm pleased to say six months later I'm on the other side of it with zero symptoms.
You might be asking, what does this have to do with Vegas?
Well for the first time in over six months I indulged.
I ate gluten, dairy, and a ton of sugar. While my stomach didn't seem to resist, the rest of me did and it was so profound I knew I had to share.
All too often we think about how food makes us look. We forget how food can make us act.
The lack of protein and massive amount of sugar had me feeling less patient, less motivated, less happy and way less energetic.
I quickly realized I wasn't myself and was not enjoying the new version.
This is why I'm so passionate about helping women understand that food is fuel and it impacts us in ways that go beyond our clothing size.
We're so busy taking care of our families and businesses that we forget to take care of ourselves and we don't realize how this impacts how we show up in life.
Creating HelloAmino allowed me to still enjoy sugar but also get protein along with it. I know that if I had eaten HelloAmino while in Vegas it wouldn't have impacted me the same way.
When Mclain and I joked about what part of our Vegas trip would stay in Vegas I quickly responded with junk food!
Next time you find yourself snapping for no reason, exhausted mid afternoon or feeling low, ask yourself, "what have I eaten today?"
